Dr. Alan Harben has provided medical oversight and rehabilitation direction at Restore since 2000. A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, he also holds a doctorate from Georgia Tech in Biomechanics. He is Board Certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Pain Management and Brain Injury Medicine. His research interests include the use of psychotropic medication to enhance rehab recovery, biomechanical evaluation of gait, orthotics, prosthetics, and management of spasticity and pain. He developed an electromyography mechanical model to estimate stiffness of individual spastic muscles. Dr. Harben also serves as the Medical Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at WellStar North Fulton Regional Hospital, Alpharetta, Georgia, and maintains a private practice in Roswell, Georgia. A past chair of the Brain Injury Association of Georgia, he currently serves on the Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund Advisory Committee (GA) acting as the chairperson of the Professional Provider Committee and is a frequent presenter to professionals in the medical and rehabilitation community at state, regional, national and international seminars. His research is published in refereed journals and other professional publications.
Dr. John Sass received his PhD from Georgia State University and is a board-certified neuropsychologist. His specialty is brain-behavior relationships, providing individual and family counseling, neuropsychological evaluations, and treatment planning for alternative strategies to enhance functional and behavioral outcomes and adjustment to injury. He has served as the consulting neuropsychologist for Restore Neurobehavioral Center since 1995 and maintains a private practice at Cognitive Rehabilitation of Georgia. Dr. Sass is active in the brain injury community, having served on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of Georgia and on a committee of experts to develop the official brochure on mild TBI for the Centers for Disease Control. Dr. Sass provides education and in-service training seminars in the area of brain injury and rehabilitation for medical professionals, caregivers and individuals living with brain injury.
Dr. Sara Augustin is a Board-certified Psychiatric Pharmacist who specializes in the areas of psychiatry, neurology, and addiction. She has provided consultant pharmacy services to Restore Health Group for the past 30 years. Her career has included both academic and clinical practice, and she currently holds adjunct faculty appointments with Mercer and UGA pharmacy schools. She has provided numerous professional presentations and authored several publications on topics including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, drug interactions, and neurobehavioral disorders. Dr. Augustin currently serves as Director of Pharmacy at Dekalb Regional Crisis Center in Decatur, GA.
Kelly Hester has been with Restore Health group as the Behavior Program Coordinator since 2007. She has over 19 years’ experience of working with individuals with behavioral challenges. She has a master’s in psychology, with a specialization in Applied Behavioral Analysis. She designs individualized behavior programs focusing on helping individuals learn to manage difficulties they may experience following a brain injury. Her special interest is in behavioral counseling that integrates other members of the interdisciplinary team in order to facilitate carryover and global use of strategies.
